Its our 27th Anniversary and what a better place to spend it than here and with my wonderful brother and sister-in-law. Our first item on the agenda this morning was to find a place to attach our lock on the bridge and throw the keys into the Salzach River. This European tradition is to show that our love will last forever.

We headed out in a cold misty rain to a bakery for breakfast and plotted out our day. We walked toward the tunnel that goes through a huge rock mountain and looked in wonder at the five story parking garage hollowed into the center of this big rock. As we came out we headed to St Peter's Square and looked at the complex of buildings, church and cemetery. They really built large and sturdy stuff back then!
We headed to the Festung Hohensalzburg, this is a huge fortress high on a shear faced rock overlooking the city. We hiked up the winding trail for some morning exercise and were thrust back into the 14th century styled fort. We spent most of the morning exploring the fort and looking out over the amazing views. We rode the funicular down the mountain (the oldest in the world; 1853) it was very quick. Back into the historical area we walked to find lunch.
Walking again in the misty cold rain we checked out a few shops, saw the Mirabell Gardens and then headed to the McCafe (McDonald's Coffee house) to warm up and use their free WiFi. We were totally impressed by McD's coffee especially because they gave you a CUP of coffee. The little cups of coffee in Europe are good but within three sips it is gone.
Last walk through some of the old historical area and back toward our hotel. We headed to a beer garden type restaurant for dinner. Great looking place, but unfortunately the food and beer wasn't the best. Back to the hotel for a rest and catch up with our social media.
