Last day in Munich

Up and out to find the only Kamps Bakery in Munich (this was a favorite spot in Berlin).  The weather is still tormenting us; cold and rainy.  After enjoying our breakfast we headed out to the Olympic village that was the site of the 1972 games and became infamous due to a hostage incident.

Arriving at the Olympic site we were battered with cold wind and rain; ugly ugly ugly.  Not much to see there it really has become just a housing area and a big park.  Just next door is the BMW Welt and assembly plant.  Since it was inside and warmer than outside the ladies agreed to go in.  We were amazed at the ultra modern and unique building; it was worth seeing alone.  Inside was a vast collection of BWM cars and motorcycles, Rolls Royce cars and Mini Cooper cars.  All of us ended up having a good time within the facility.  Too bad the assembly plant tours were full; those who know made reservations months ago.

Back on the Metro we headed to the main plaza area and went to the large open air market.  We located some good sausage for lunch before looking around at the wares displayed in the booths.  We ventured down the street looking for the beer museum, but unfortunately we made a wrong turn and found the sex/erotic shop instead by mistake.  Then we found a great 2nd hand clothing store that had lots of the traditional German clothing.  We convinced Bill to try on the lederhosen, he actually looked at home wearing them.

We headed to the Hofbrauhaus near the main plaza which this is named the most famous beer hall in the world.  I don't know the story behind that claim but it was a pretty amazing place.  Very large and filled with lots of tourists drinking beer by the liter while dining on pig knuckles.

We walked around to some of the shops lining the square, our first chance since they were all closed on Sunday.  We found a street that held all the "Rodeo Drive" type stores that we just looked at from outside.

Deciding to wrap up for the day - finally a little warmer weather (65 degrees) and no rain made the final walk back easier.  We headed to an intriguing hamburger restaurant we had noticed our first day but were severely disappointed that they are closed on Mondays!  Walking more we found an Italian place that pleased our palates.  That ended our day; all day on the train tomorrow through the Alps into Bologna, Italy.
Hooray, Kamps - we have missed you so!

Hmmm, what shall I choose?
